In The Plot Against America, the 1940 election was between President F. Roosevelt and Republican candidate C. Lindbergh. Election was big because it decided whether or not the U.S. would be in World War II. Lindbergh won all but 2 states in the election which meant he would keep the U.S. out of war and make peace with Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Jews in the U.S feared making peace with those nations meant the possibility of a fascist government in America.
